sometimes it takes two

This is a copy of a letter I wrote last week to my friends Cara and Kim who work together to start their lawnmower. Since we are nearing the end of lawn mowing season, I thought I would share it with all of you.

so, this evening...around 7pm, i arrived home from the studio and heard myself complain out-loud at how long the grass was. then i remembered that it is now my job to tend the acreage (er....1/8th of an acre-age). so, i put on old shoes, pulled out the lawnmower, then went at it. i pulled, then pumped that little red button thing, then pulled, then pumped that button a few more times and pulled and cursed (like a sailor) and pulled and cursed and after no less than 39 f-bombs and 29 yanks on that god damned cord i finally got the mower to start. all the while i was thinking of the two of you and your joint efforts to start a lawnmower.

miss you!

Hope this brings a bit of solace to all the rest of you who can't start your lawnmowers either...the season is almost over.

  2. My husband could totally relate. After having bad luck owning three lawnmowers that would not start finally we went electric.

  3. After some cursing and a few swift kicks at the thing, we finally gave up on our lawnmower and borrowed our neighbors! ugh. I now think about you too when I am attempting to mow the lawn :) We miss you!!

  4. Gosh I thought I was the only one who would swear aloud at our lawnmower. And threaten my husband that I am this close to bashing it with a baseball bat, just so I, who mows the lawn, could buy something better. I am glad it's almost the end. We live on a big hill and 1/2 acre and I can't wait.
