sometimes it takes two

This is a copy of a letter I wrote last week to my friends Cara and Kim who work together to start their lawnmower. Since we are nearing the end of lawn mowing season, I thought I would share it with all of you.

September 14, 2009

so, this evening...around 7pm, i arrived home from the studio and heard myself complain out-loud at how long the grass was. then i remembered that it is now my job to tend the acreage (er....1/8th of an acre-age). so, i put on old shoes, pulled out the lawnmower, then went at it. i pulled, then pumped that little red button thing, then pulled, then pumped that button a few more times and pulled and cursed (like a sailor) and pulled and cursed and after no less than 39 f-bombs and 29 yanks on that god damned cord i finally got the mower to start. all the while i was thinking of the two of you and your joint efforts to start a lawnmower.

miss you!

Hope this brings a bit of solace to all the rest of you who can't start your lawnmowers either...the season is almost over.

Pop City

photos by Brian Cohen

We had the pleasure of meeting Rachel Booth a few weeks ago...just after we moved to Pittsburgh. She heard about us from a friend and immediately got in touch. She too is a new transplant to Pittsburgh...probably the perfect person to write an article about how excited we are to be living here...just as she, herself is. You can read Rachel's article about Jeremy & I, Moop and living in PGH on this weeks edition of Pop City. Thanks Rachel!

Bianchi

Our house is located less than 5 minutes from the studio. This morning, it took me 45 minutes to get from point A (house) to point B (studio). At least three to four mornings a week it takes me 45 minutes to an hour to get to the studio. I.hate.it.

The bike I currently have is a beautiful 1978 Raleigh road bike. The thin tires are not so good for riding the brick streets of Pittsburgh, though (and the gears need some serious TLC). So... I want a new bike. Specifically, this Bianchi Milano series bike. If I rode to work, it would likely take me not much more than 10 minutes. Ten refreshing traffic free minutes.

Chicago Renegade

Good morning! If you're looking for something fun to do this weekend you should stop by Renegade in Chicago. Don't live in Chicago? Take a road trip! There are some fabulously talented vendors there and you will surely have a good time (Pabst is a sponsor...how can you not have a good time when cheap beer and awesome craft are involved?)

It's a BIG day here in steel town

Okay okay okay...let's be frank. Over the last few years, I have found that I am a sports fan.

It started with The Celtics two years ago (I love you Paul , Rondo, Ray and KG!). Jeremy and I were both working super long days and eventually we realized our only break from work was watching Celtics games. I would find myself thinking about the team while I was working, at the grocery store, at the bar, it would come up in conversation...everywhere. I began to structure my days and weeks around Celtics games. I could not stop thinking about it. The same way one of my best friends couldn't stop thinking about Gossip Girl...I could not stop thinking about the next game. I was going to let you all know about this last Xmas when the Celtics and the Lakers had their Xmas day game. But, if you saw that game, you know they lost...miserably. I was so disappointed that I could not proclaim my fandom on that day. I know, call me a fair weather fan (I inherited that from my father)...I am not. I just know this is a sensitive subject with many of you out there and it did not seem to be the right time. So. There you have it. The Moop family is a sports family and we have fun. (prepare for game parties at the studio..they're coming, for sure!)

the Titans will pay for this.

Now...onto its relevance for me today. This very day is the NFL season opener at Heinz Field... right here in Pittsburgh! The Steelers vs. The Titans. It is going to be a high energy game. I must be honest. I have tried and tried to learn the game of football..but, I am always distracted by everything else going on (ahem...the fans, the excitement, the joy) so, do not expect a play by play analysis from me (that is better left to Jeremy and Jamie). Here's what I am interested in today. This city is all but shut down for this game. The Steelers play a home game and everyone takes a long weekend. People will take off work. There is no school tomorrow. Yinz are serious. The NFL and the city of Pittsburgh have planned this season opener with a free concert down on The Point ...The Black Eyed Peas and Tim McGraw (I guess they're trying to cover their bases with the fans??) You can bet I will be there. Parker, Jeremy and myself...we will all be there. Why? Because, I want to experience this city's enthusiasm first hand. I want to see the sea of black and gold, the terrible towels, the tailgaiting, the Pittsburgh pride. I.can't.wait. I love Pittsburgh! I am so looking forward to joining everyone else in Pittsburgh on the day when they love it too. It is a BIG day here in steel town.

Little Sapling Toys

I just discovered Little Sapling Toys via an Etsy "Quit Your Day Job" feature...and I must say, I am impressed! Not only do Nick and Kimber have a charming family, they also make a charming collection of wooden toys. I am a sucker for well designed, well built, naturally simple things. So, even though I do not have a tiny child (and will not have any more!) I could not help myself - I bought a set of blocks! As soon as I have shelves to fill with all of the things I love...they will be proudly on display!

Press!

The Pittsburgh Tribune Review wrote a great article about Moop in today's paper. You can read the print version or find it online. Thanks Joanne and Jasmine for writing about and photographing us! It was great fun to meet you both!

Scenes from a party

I finally had a moment to finish sorting through the photos from our Hello Pittsburgh Party. They were just uploaded to our flickr page..jump over and take a looksee. The party was great fun! (Yet another reason why we love Pittsburgh - we're having way more fun here and that makes our long long work days much more manageable.) We are looking forward to future events in the studio...hope you can make it to the next one!

its been busy

a tiny glimpse inside the party

Just wanted to drop a quick apology - so sorry for the lack of updates on the 'ol blog here...we had to put so many things on hold in order to get ready for our Hello Pittsburgh party and now we are sewing and sewing and sewing to get caught up. Thanks to everyone who came - it was great to meet all of you! I have yet to sort through all of the photos from that night (which was so fun!) but as soon as I do, they will be up on our flickr page...in the meantime...enjoy the days!
