I am so excited to have just ordered a pattern from the illustrious Jenny Gordy of Wiksten.  She's currently selling her Tova top pattern....I'm sure they'll sell out quickly so hurry on over!  I've never sewn from a pattern before (aside from my own scratchy notes) so I'm looking forward to a beautifully hand-drafted piece of work from Jenny...and if I never get around to making a shirt for myself, I'll just hang the pattern on my studio wall.  Either way it will be very nice.

Finn Juhl

You might remember me mentioning before Parker left for camp that we had made ourselves a rigorous work schedule of studio time and home demo/renovation time.  Here's how it went.  The first week, we went to the studio from 8-3.  Headed home and began working on the demo of our soon to be bedroom from 3:30ish to 8pm.  This lasted for about 5 days.  Then, we realized this ridiculous work schedule was making us (read: me) very unhappy.  We had not had a real break in a really long time and I was not enjoying the dirty work of hauling 5 gallon buckets down two flights of stairs and into the truck after already having spent a full day working in the studio.  So, we stalled our renovation work.  Talked about how we really need to go about this house project and spent the next two weeks just working in the studio and taking evenings off.  During that time, I daydreamed about the furniture we would put inside our future bedroom.  I came across this love seat at DWR, designed by Finn Juhl.  Isn't it beautiful?!!  I love love this love seat.

Hungover Owls

“You uh…you need me to move my car?”

If you've been around the blog and crafting world for any amount of time you have surely tired of the woodland creatures and owl trend....until you start scrolling through Hungover Owls.  It's almost as good as Unhappy Hipsters (one of my favorite places for a good chuckle).

Bust Make and Moop

We just found out that we were accepted into this years Bust Craftacular at the World Maker Faire!  It is going to be so much fun!  We have only done 2 public events (hard to believe, I know!) and I am super excited about this one.  Is anyone out there planning to go?

Hello from vacay

Hi everyone!  I know I've been quite quiet on the blog this summer.  There has been *a lot* going on.  All of it good...most of it busy and humid and exciting and ordinary and nostalgic and boring and fun.  It's not over yet, but the summer days have gone by so quickly.  Parker starts back at school in 5 days which always feels like our summer is over too.  We left last Friday to pick her up from camp and to drive through Pennsylvania, upstate New York, Vermont, see friends in Massachusetts, swim in ponds, climb trees, take driving tours, eat at fantastic restaurants and enjoy the company of each other (kind of like The Sound of Music..only Jeremy did not keep us in line by blowing a whistle and we did not call him Captain).  It's been a lovely week..a much needed week.  We arrived home yesterday and we'll be back to the studio life on Monday.  If you're not bored, here's a few photos of our trip..there's a lot of images of lakes across the north east.  I like lakes.

A lake somewhere along the way in upstate New York.

We stopped at Mass MOCA.  The Sol Lewitt show is amazing.

Parker in front of her cabin at camp.

We swam in this beautiful pond.

Parker climbed a really big tree.  With a little bit of help :)

We came across this huge lake in the Allegheny National Forest on our drive back.
I would like to return to go kayaking.  First I must learn to kayak.

A huge huge dam.  Dam's are impressive.

That's our trip!  Now we're lying low for a few more days.  Enjoy your weekend!

Our daily lunch

Preparing a meal, no matter how simple, is something I find great solace in.  Especially when I get to share it with people I love!  I feel so lucky that Jeremy and I get to sit down together every day to share our afternoon meal.  It's one of our few uninterrupted moments that we spend together each day.  Our lunch time meal is always simple, always warm and always deeply satisfying.

We start by cooking a pot of rice (jasmine or basmati).

We typically add either black beans or chick peas...We do not have a stove in the studio kitchen so we just rinse them and add them to our rice bowl.

We always add Braggs and hot sauce.  If we have a fresh vegetable on hand, we'll chop that and add it to the mix as well (today we have an heirloom tomato!).

Then we share a few quiet minutes, eating lunch, talking about the day so far and relaxing.  It's one of my favorite parts of the day.

We're going to Bike Fest tonight...are you?!
It's a great way to support safer streets for bicyclers
and to help promote bicycles as a healthy way to get around town.
There's still time to get tickets...buy them here!
If you go, you would be entered to win one of many prizes....including a Moop Messenger Bag!
