what we did different this year (abbreviated version)

oh bother…I have a very long winded 7 paragraph essay written for you all talking all about how much fun this holiday season has been, how it's been a lot of work but virtually stress free compared to the last several years because we're no longer operating in a made-upon-order business model, how I feel like a weird mixture of the grasshopper and the ant, how we get to be a family of ants and enjoy the holiday season this year because we switched from made-upon-order to in-stock and ready to ship and worked hard for 3 1/2 years to accomplish that switch and how no one should run their business in a made-upon-order fashion unless they are a restaurant (and even then, you prep!)…BUT, I don't think you all really want to spend a half hour of your morning reading about my analysis of business…really i don't (maybe if someone wants to publish an article, i'll edit it for that occasion, but maybe this is not the forum for that).  Instead, here's a video I made of our studio!  I just got a new iphone and I love love the HD video feature!  I guarantee there will be many more Moop videos.  This one was taken yesterday..and as you can see, we've been pretty well cleaned out of bags.  Typically there are piles upon piles of bags in progress but everything we've made has shipped out within a few hours of being finished.  You'll see Jeremy's mom (she's our shipping manager and the one that writes those beautifully drafted handwritten notes on each and every order that goes out…she's a calligrapher!) and you'll see my wonderful assistant Emily!  She's been with us for almost a year and I don't know what I would do without her!

and now, Moop studios - in real time!

I'll end this note wishing you all the very best, most happy, joy filled days of all!

xoxoxo a million times over,

Wendy

  1. I'd be willing to bet there are a TON of people who would LOVE to read that 7-paragraph essay. Seriously. You should post that sucker here. And if not here, pitch it to The Storque, because, sister, you guys know what you're doing!

  4. Droooooling - I wish my house was filled with Moop bags on every hanger, knob and rack (yah, husband would just love that, but oh well). Yes, you are doing things right, or I wouldn't already have 5 Moop bags (and counting). Just gave one to my brother who just started a professor job- can the waxed canvas messenger be any more professorial? Nice video, it's cool to see everyone who is involved. Wishing you luck in 2011, but you won't need it - your business and bags ROCK.

  5. I would LOVE to read your article! People are hungry for articles like that taken from an expert. I'm waiting for it!

May I ask a question? Do people come in to purchase from your workshop? Is it that sort of set up too?...a retail store/studio?
