In Stock!

We have just added a new section to our website. It's called IN STOCK and means just that! We have been working towards this day for...well... two and a half years. You see, it was November of 2007 when a little site called Etsy got in touch and said they would like to feature Moop (we were only 6 months old then), and well... feature us they did!

Etsy was much much smaller then, but it didn't change that we were completely slammed with orders. So slammed that we flew my mother-in-law in from Pittsburgh to Massachusetts to help out - we worked around the clock, barely had time for Christmas that year, learned everything I never knew about dealing with a rush of customers (who were and are awesome!), learned about accounting, expedited shipping, managing an order database, figuring out how to make multiple bags at one time, how to let people help me, how to be consistent, how to say no and how to set goals to keep from drowning in the number of people who were suddenly interested in what I was doing. That feature (and a few other timely projects) catapulted me to the position of making a real sound go of this business. That decision has completely consumed my life...and now Jeremy's life. While it has only been a few years, it feels like an eternity has passed. So much has happened since that feature. We have had some great press, we have hired studio assistants, we have moved the studio 3 times, we have left careers to start new careers, we have moved our business and family to an entirely new (new for me) city (with little time to enjoy the city itself and no time to meet the awesome people who live here!), we work every single day, we have grown from one bag design (The original Market Bag) to a full line of styles for men, women and little munchkins and we're still growing (next, bags for puppies…I'm kidding!). We have been working towards having a stock of bags ever since our Etsy feature 2 1/2 years ago! Our rate of growth has been steadily ahead of what we could produce in a day and every bit of press or holiday or sale or whatever that drove even more sales bogged us down further. We have learned so much about efficient production methods, pricing (you can't have a successful business if you can't pay yourself), sourcing, advertising and frankly, about running a business that plans to grow, all while simultaneously sewing & shipping the daily orders that come in. We have by no means learned it all but we have accomplished one of our biggest goals - A STOCK OF BAGS! It is so completely satisfying to have finally met this goal - yay!!!!

Thanks for being such awesome people, supporting our business, following our growth, giving us your feedback, sharing your amazing stories, writing about us on your blogs and in your magazines and helping us become one of the many small business owners making a living making things.

You can find that In Stock section by clicking here. There are currently a few colors of Market Bags, Letter Bags and the few remaining Organic Market Bags.

We will add anything we have in stock to this section so check back often. In Stock items will ship within 2 business days (awesome, right!). Oh, and Mother's Day is right around the corner, so if you order within the next few days you will receive your bags just in time to show your Mamas how much they mean to you!

NEW (and in stock) Organic Market Bags!

I am so excited to introduce our newest collection of Market Bags! We have been working hard behind the scenes to source some new and exciting fabrics and are thrilled to be working with 100% organic USA grown, milled & dyed cotton canvas. It is amazing quality with an almost linen feel. We are offering it in 4 versatile colors, each with different colored linings. We had hopes of making these available in time for Earth Day…but, really, shouldn't everyday be a day we think about our impact on the Earth? We think so and we are excited to add a few sustainable and organic fabrics to our line.

You can find the new Organic Market Bags in all three of our shops:

The Moop Website,

our Etsy shop

and

our home on Supermarket!

We also wanted to let you know, we have several of each color combination in stock and ready to ship…just in time for Mother's Day! You probably thought the day would never come when you could order a Moop bag and have it before the week was over…well, that time is now - thanks to Emily and Marlene, our hardworking members of the Moop team who are helping Jeremy and I with our work load!

We can guarantee the few that are in stock will not last long…so, order quick and they'll ship out within 2-3 days. Please note, because we are managing orders from three sources, only orders for the Organic Market Bags placed directly on our website will ship within 2-3 days - once they sell out, orders will be on our standard 2 week turnaround...there are only a few of each color combination..so hurry up!

We Love Liam!

I would like to introduce you to Lynn of Satsuma Letter Press. Not only is she a talented woman, she is the mother of Liam, a charming 6 year old boy with Type 2 Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Lynn is trying to raise money to renovate their bathroom to make life just a bit more accommodating for Liam. I have been so moved by her story, her needs and the outpouring of support from this community of independent businesses that I am proud to be a part of. Part of their story and the need for the fundraiser, in Lynn's words:

We moved from Portland to the small college-town of Corvallis almost two years ago. Our single level home here has plenty of open space that allows Liam the freedom of movement and play that we want for him. This summer, though, we are planning to remodel the bathroom to be fully accessible. We'll take out the bath tub and replace it with a walk-in/roll-in shower with a built-in bench seat. Liam will always require assistance to bathe, but it's been well over a year since I've been able to safely and comfortably give him a bath in the tub. We'll also install a wall-mounted sink so that Liam can drive up to it himself and wash his own hands easily. Our wish, as ever, is to provide Liam with as much independence as possible in as many ways as possible.

We are very fortunate to have had a special needs trust established for Liam shortly after his diagnosis. This trust has provided so many essential things when our insurance has failed to come through – Liam's SnapDragon; various respiratory and durable medical equipment; a scary week long stay in the PICU in Portland; occupational and physical therapy ... As you might well imagine, these things add up, quickly, relentlessly. The bathroom remodel is just one expense, with others sure to come.

This is the first time we've chosen to reach out to a larger community to ask for financial help. It's difficult to ask, but we all need help, in one form or another, from time to time. Four years ago when Liam was diagnosed, Satsuma Press was just a vague dream and I had never read a single blog, let alone thought I'd ever start my own ... I have been astonished, again and again, by the kind of community that exists online, linking people together from points all over the world. When I think of this, I am hopeful that the word will spread and that people will be moved to help. That said, please forward this, post about it on your own blog, tweet about if you like. Please know that we don't expect this; we will be delighted if you are able to help, whether that is financially or by keeping the momentum going. We have no idea what sort of outcome can be expected, but I am full of optimism. Every bit, small or large, will help.

In advance – thank you, thank you.

You can find Liam's story on the blog Liam's family has started and find out how you can help support a family hoping to provide a fundamental need to their small son. We are happy to be part of the 50 artists/studios/businesses that have donated prizes to the fundraiser, which begins today! Click here to learn more.

That adorable kid...again!

watch the whole thing....he was the season opener speech for the 2010 baseball season. so cute!

a NEW bag! (finally)

We know the value of a large bag. Functional, stylish, well constructed space is something we have built our name on. But, we know...some of our bags are large! We have listened to your requests, your pleads, your valuable feedback and we have designed a smaller size of one of our most popular bags...introducing the small Messenger!

It's a hybrid of all of our bags. We have taken the uber useful interior pocket layout of The Letter Bag, the simple top flap of The Bookbag, the construction method of the larger Messenger, the craftsmanship of The Market Bag (the bag that started it all!), the water proof cordura used on many of the other bags, added two useful front pockets (one with a snap to keep your phones & iPods easily accessible but safe in place) made the standard length strap 4o inches (with an option for 55"), used welded steel hardware for extra durability and used nickel & lead free plastic zippers….hmmmm, what else? Oh, they're still all designed and manufactured, start to finish, in our Pittsburgh studio.

We have just two colors currently listed in the shop but we will be adding many more. If you don't see what you want, let us know! We plan to offer in the following combinations:

::: Rosewood corded canvas lined in charcoal cordura (in shop now)
::: Brushed Brown canvas lined in organic golden yellow cotton (in shop now)

::coming soon:: (see the original Messenger for color reference)

::: Brushed Brown canvas lined in teal cordura
::: Sand corded canvas lined in teal cordura
::: Provincial Blue corded canvas lined in charcoal cordura
::: Tan brushed canvas lined in bright red cordura
::: Slate brushed canvas lined in matte black cordura
::: Hunter brushed canvas lined in matte black cordura
::: Gunmetal lined in charcoal cordura

If you would like to order one of the "coming soon" colors, simply place your order for one of the colors currently listed in the shop then include a note (or follow with an email) letting us know what color you would like.
