The Black Rhino

Isn't this one of the most incredible things you've seen?!?  The Black Rhino is an endangered species, suffering from severe poaching in Africa.  In an effort to save the remaining creatures, a relocation preserve has been acquired and the rhinos have been flown via helicopter to their new safe home.  They are put to sleep and blindfolded, then flown upside down.  It looks so scary and bizarre but is apparently the most humane way to transport these large animals.  I love when I am amazed by the world around me.  Humans do incredible things.

Learn more about the efforts here and here.
All photos from Green Renaissance.
found via The Short List and someone on twitter (where i learn about lots of things).

  1. I saw these photos and thought it must be a shock to villagers down below witnessing the sight. What an amazing thing to be a part of!

  2. I thought it was awful until I read that the animal was put to sleep and now I can calm down. I'm against any kind of animal abuse.
