Moop goes to Washington! (plus free shipping!!)

We are off to Washington DC today for a Moop pop-up shop hosted by Hemphill in Logan Circle.  We're so excited to meet everyone who comes out and we'll greet you with cupcakes and French macarons.  Seriously!  We will!  And bags...we'll have lots of bags.  We are hoping to see as many of you as can make it tonight and for the rest...well, we don't want you to miss out on all the fun so we're offering free shipping this weekend.  Think of it as an early holiday sale.

Did you realize the holidays are right around the corner.  We did.  We've been sewing and sewing and sewing to be sure to have as many bags as possible ready for you.  As you all know, we hand craft each and every bag in our Pittsburgh studio so the earlier you can place an order the better...because every year as the holidays approach, we begin to sell out of our most popular items (*cough**cough**Letter Bags&Messengers*cough*)

For those of you in the DC area, we'll see you tonight at:

Quantum Levitation

That's right. Quantum Levitation. Think about that this morning. Your Monday will never be the same. Imagine the possibilities!

Here's a little bit of info on what you're looking at (via NPR through Wired News):

This levitation effect is explained by the Meissner effect, which describes how, when a material makes the transition from its normal to its superconducting state, it actively excludes magnetic fields from its interior, leaving only a thin layer on its surface.

When a material is in its superconducting state — which involves very low temperatures — it is strongly diamagnetic. This means that when a magnetic field is externally applied, it will create an equally opposing magnetic field, locking it in place.

Scientists are constantly re-imagining how we interact with our world. They're not necessarily always inventing new things, they're completely deconstructing what's already here and re-understanding what it does or what it might be capable of doing. Science rules.

The New Old Letter Bag!

This went out in an email newsletter a few days ago and the sale ends tonight...so, I thought I'd post it here for those of you who have yet to join our mailing list (ahem...you can do that here)  We'll be announcing holiday ordering deadlines, special sales and new bags via this newsletter so you won't want to miss out!!  I won't always re-post it here on the blog.

\\\\\\\\\\//////////

Let's talk about The Letter Bags.  Put on your thinking goggles because it's going to get confusing for a moment. You all love this bag, there's no doubt about it (and we do, too!). Last winter when we started working with the fabulous waxed canvas (that you all love even more than The Letter Bags), we designed a bag, in waxed canvas, and called it: The Letter Bag in Waxed Canvas.  It was slightly different than its non-waxed counterpart in the Letter Bag collection, though.  It had one long adjustable strap and a top flap that covers the interior of the bag.  It is indeed a great bag but it's not really a Letter Bag…it's a messenger bag!  So, we've moved a few things around and re-named a few things and that bag is now called:

Messenger no.3
You can see it along with the entire Messenger Collection, here.

Now, we know how much you all have loved the original Letter Bag so, for the last few weeks we have been working on a waxed canvas version of the original Letter Bag…the one with the two shoulder straps and the adjustable/removable strap.
Well, it is finally ready and in the shop.  And we have named it…wait for it…...The Letter Bag!

**cheers**applause**applause**

Available in three waxed canvas options:
BrownGray and Red

And three non-waxed canvas options:
BlackNavy and Rosewood

Now, if you are still with me, you deserve a reward!  So, this weekend, please enjoy 10% off all of the Letter Bags (waxed and non-waxed).
Simply enter the code: NEWOLDLETTERBAG upon checkout.

Thanks, as always!!, for being awesome (and for reading my rambling emails).
Have a nice weekend!!

A night of firsts

Last night The Moth held its very first Pittsburgh StorySlam.  It was at Club Cafe, which is small and hip and the perfect venue for a bunch of strangers to get together and tell their stories.  And, I TOLD ONE!  I have never ever in my life been up on stage in front of an audience…with lights and a microphone…never.  I was terribly nervous, my voice was shaking and I was certain the whole time everyone could see my black bra and red undies through my pink dress.  I had not planned on telling a story, but then we arrived, I had a martini (and a beer) and well, I told a story to my friend who said, "Hello! We're at The Moth! Get up and tell that story!"  Then Jeremy said the same thing…and so I did!  And I'm glad I did.  I've had a lot of firsts over the last few weeks and really, all of it is making me really fall in love with Pittsburgh.  Because, let's be honest, my first two years here were rough.  I did not love this town.  But, things are settling in nicely and I'm beginning to see this place for what it really is - a great place with great people and Moth StorySlams.

Hope to see you at the next one!!

Genius

Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being.
Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend
and an inspiring mentor.  Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built,
and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.

from Apple's homepage

I welled up when I read this this morning.  Steve Jobs was an incredible genius who affected more lives than could ever be measured.  His contribution to contemporary culture is unparalleled.

A pack of books

I love to read.  Let me clarify, I love to read books with paper pages.  I spend so many hours every day on the computer that I think I will always choose a paper book over a digital one.  I love to collect books, too.  Our book shelves are as much a story of us as the stories on the pages and I don't think I'll ever want to give up that history.  I want to add this collection by Tank Books.  They designed a set of books in the size and styling of a pack of cigarettes.  I love most anything in miniature size and I can't get enough of these classic tales wrapped up in pocket sized packages.

Available for purchase here.
