The Belt

I am really proud to be featured among so many great rust belt businesses in this new article on The Belt.  There are so many great people making a living making things...this is my credo.  I am most excited by businesses that choose to build the products they design.  There are so few barriers to entry in 2014 that there is almost no excuse to not learn every facet of the business you want to run.  I'm glad to see so many choosing to do so.  Makers are changing things in really exciting ways.  Read this story, then go out and do something interesting.

p.s. that's Jess with her personal assistant, Clyde. Those two are srsly the cutest.

Thank you!

I can't thank you all enough for taking a quick minute out of your Saturday last weekend to shop our seconds sale!  It sold out almost completely within the first few hours.  We've finally boxed up and shipped out every order from the sale and we're taking the weekend off to lounge about in the sunshine, barbecue with friends, shoot some bows and arrows, beg our snap peas to grow in our still a little chilly northern garden, watch some weirdo chickens peck about the yard and really just take a few minutes off...oh! and, to think about all the women and men who have served our country.  I'm not typically nationalistic but, I want to give a little shout out to my little brother.  He's one rad dude...and a US Marine, Special Forces, three tours of duty and one of my favorite people on the planet...makes me laugh more than anyone.  I suppose more appropriate for Veterans Day but, alas, high fives to Matt.
Enjoy your weekend!
p.s. another high five to Pennsylvania for finally! making gay marriage legal. It's about time.

Ready...set...SECONDS SALE!!!

Hello Saturday!
It has been a busy few weeks around Moop HQ. We teamed up with a fellow Pittsburgh business to help them with a product launch for their highly ambitious new business venture. Many of you saw the Moop + Thread bags made with fabric from 100% post consumer recycled plastic bottles collected in Haiti. We're proud to be a part of it and hope you'll check it out.

But, let's cut to the chase...I'm writing today because we've been slowly building up a collection of SECONDS BAGS!!!  This seconds sale is not nearly as large as our last one.  We're getting better at catching mistakes before they're too far along thanks to my INCREDIBLY talented team. Drew, Gena, Jess and Jesse are truly, in every way, the very very best!  So, these bags won't last long!

Enjoy your weekend and thanks so so much for carrying Moop on all your daily adventures.  I've been receiving some of the best notes from fellow Moop carriers about where our bags have been....all over the world!! It makes me super happy to see those photos and receive those notes so, keep them coming!

Wendy & co.

p.s. Pittsburghers! Mark your calendars for June 21st! We're teaming up with the folks at Yelp for an event in our studio! There will be Moop bags, food trucks, tshirts and really great people! We'll let you know more about it as the date approaches but, keep that Saturday clear because you're coming to Moop!!!

A Special Collaboration

We pride ourselves on our in house production process.  Each and every Moop bag is designed and manufactured, start to finish, in our Pittsburgh studio.  Our work ethic, philosophies on creative practice and building things from the ground up (products, businesses, lives..all of it from scratch) are why we choose to work the way we do.  When Thread approached us and let us know about their idea to turn trash from Haiti into useful products and asked us to build bags with their fabric, we said, yes, of course.  Together we developed a durable fabric made from recycled plastic bottles collected in Haiti.  About 16 plastic bottles, collected at community recycling centers, are used to make a yard of fabric.
This Special Edition release of our Messenger no.1 and our Paperback utilize Thread’s fabric as the lining.  Thread purchases plastic bottles ready to be turned into other good things from a network of citizen owned recycling centers in Haiti.  These small businesses remove trash directly from the streets of Haiti and provide jobs and income to over 1,620 individuals.  These bags help make that happen.
We are excited to see where these Powered by Thread® bags go.  You can learn more about how Thread began, why they believe in fabric made from plastic bottles and see some photos from their collection centers by visiting their website:  We're happy to align ourselves with brands who share a similar ethos of sustainability, job creation and making things happen through hard work.

One of my most favorite jewelry designers is having a Mother's Day sale! For the next two days you can receive 15% off with the code: mamalove at

Many years ago, Jennifer and I were in school together and reconnected a few years ago when our businesses crossed paths. I was immediately taken with her designs, her quality and her commitment to story and influence. She's as beautiful as her work. I would love for someone to gift me (hint hint to my hub) a pair of these cuff bracelets or this spine ring.
